Kate Erikkson, Founder and Director, helloEd
Kate Eriksson, the founder, and director of helloEd had worked all over the world from Stockholm to Singapore to Silicon Valley for two decades on emerging technologies. She helped many of the world’s top technology companies and startups, and while doing so, couldn’t ‘unsee’ the amazing potential of technology in healthcare.
helloEd is a digital marketplace for the world’s health, home, and assistive technologies. The service uses artificial intelligence to track the world’s products and releases from hundreds of mainstream and emerging sources, assesses what’s likely to be good, how they might be used, and presented on the site in a positive way to quickly give people choices.
helloEd is serving a significant market, with one in four people globally living with chronic disease, heart disease as the leading cause of death, 50 million diagnosed with dementia and an ageing population.
Currently, the health tech platform receives thousands of visits from the global community, and is being supported by associations and shared globally among communities with dementia, Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, Autism, aging and those living alone.
One of the key factors that make helloEd stand out from the crowd is its combination of vision, technology expertise, and customer experience. “The companies don’t pay us for the listing we make, we do it independently,” mentions Kate. “Also, helloEd is not only all about technology, but also about enhancing the human experience. As many of our customers deal with complex issues, we provide them with human-centered stories, flipbooks, flashcards, videos, and ‘spotify-like’ playlists, to inspire and inform them about what’s possible.”
Types of products health related products for monitoring, alerts and sharing data with your doctor, through to specialist phones, GPS tracking and falls, wearables, medical devices, movement detection, smart home, voice assistants, eye tracking, rehab and mobility.
The roadmap for helloEd is impressive, including a white-label health technology service for health professionals to help their clients and patients understand what’s available and approved, and how to share the data and get outcomes; and even a related microconsulting service for how health professionals can harness health tech into their businesses.
The start-up is striving to be the world’s most trusted healthrelated technology marketplace.
Kate shares a story of how helloEd helped a woman who had to quit her job to monitor her parents with dementia. When her parents went missing one day and were found after a long, frantic police search. Following that, she took helloEd’s help in finding several dementia-specific products, such as cameras for full movement detection in the home, a heart-rate monitoring bracelet and a tracker for her father, medication dispensers, etc. “It’s changed their lives, and she’s become an advocate for what we do,’’ prides Kate.
“Finding the right technology is challenging and time consuming process for both health providers and consumers. As one of very few enterprises operating in this space globally, HelloEd offers evidence-based, valuable assistance in finding the right technological solutions for different circumstances,’’ says Michael Nilsson, a Physician, Director at the Centre for Rehab Innovations, & Global Innovation Chair of Rehabilitation Medicine, University of Newcastle.
helloEd is founded by experienced technology executives across Australia, Sweden and Silicon Valley from companies including Ericsson, AT&T and PwC, and supported by an impressive team of health and mental health professionals.
The team is committed to being an independent platform, incorporating the best options possible from major and niche brands without bias and delivering an innovative roadmap. They don’t offer any products of their own.
